The Cuckoo Choir, a vocal group for local people who are over pensionable age, was started in April 2013 by Sarah Cheesmur. Sarah, herself a keen member of the Singing Allsorts, recognised the physical, social and emotional benefits that singing together within a community brings. Jane Haughton agreed to join her as Musical Director, and members of the Singing Allsorts came together to support the venture. Fiona Fawssett has recently joined to play piano for the choir.
Initial funding was secured from the West Sussex Initiative Community Fund and the Independent State of Cuckfield to help with the purchase of necessary equipment and sheet music - all was very gratefully received.
The Choir has now gone from strength to strength with 40 people now singing regularly. We have sung as part of village celebrations and in concert with the Singing Allsorts.
If you would like to join us you are very welcome. We sing every Friday in term time at the Old School, Cuckfield from 2.00pm - 3.30pm. The only requirement is to enjoy singing and to be prepared to have fun! Should you wish to discuss this please contact Sarah via the contact page making clear it is a Cuckoo Choir enquiry.
